Executive Summary
Inspired by recommendations from the Florida Governor's Haiti Advisory Group, FAVACA launched the 2006-2007 Florida-Haiti Initiative, a unique collaboration with the State of Florida, which focuses on development programs in Haiti that promote economic growth, security and disaster preparedness. FAVACA is achieving these objectives through a combination of technical assistance and training to build capacity, educational opportunities, micro-credit loans, and donations of necessary equipment and supplies.

Building on its long-standing partnerships with Florida's public and private universities and colleges, businesses, government agencies, non-profit organizations and the Haitian-American community, FAVACA is carrying out the following programs:

The Professional Technical Assistance Program fields top experts to provide technical assistance and training to improve Haiti's economic growth, disaster preparedness and security in response to requests from the Haitian government and grassroots organizations;

The Educational Strengthening and Partnership Program increases the capacity of educational institutions in Haiti through professional linkages between Florida and Haitian universities and institutions of higher learning, assistance for Haitian students via residential or distance learning and donations of information technology;

The Micro-credit Business Development Program supports the provision of micro-credit loans to start-up businesses and the rural poor;

The Customs Cooperation Program identifies and implements practical steps to strengthen customs cooperation between Haiti and Florida; and
